Abstract
According to ancient documents, the name “Lang Giang” appears early in written history. Phu Lang Giang was an ancient place that appeared hundreds of years ago in the administrative system of medieval Vietnam. However, the provenance of the name Lang Giang, its administrative structure and geographical scale were not adequately studied. This gap of knowledge can not be justified by the fact that Bac Giang - Kinh Bac in general and Lang Giang in particular were cultural spaces located within the territory of the ancient Kinh Bac region. The land generated many cultural values that contributed to the creation of the civilization in northern Vietnam. On this occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Lang Giang district (1948 - 2023), this article examines the name Lang Giang and the establishment of the Lang Giang district, hoping to contribute some new understanding about the region in history.
