Abstract

The article examines the challenges that European countries are facing due to the military conflict in Ukraine. Breaking out in February 2022, this is the largest military skirmish in Europe since the end of World War II (1945). Its impacts not only shake geopolitical maps of the continent and the world but also cause division, shift military alliances, regional and global politics, and place new economic, social, and migration pressures on the "old continent". Through the perspectives of politicians, scholars, analysts in Europe, North America, leading research institutes in the world, and assessments of Chinese political and international relations researchers, this article provides a multi-angled picture of the assessment and perception of the military conflict and the way this event shapes security order and international relations of Europe and the  world in the early 21st century. Understanding the challenges that Europe are encountering from a war is important to sketch out the model of interaction between military conflicts and contemporary international relations.
