Abstract

Examining 48 issues of the Tập san Văn Sử Địa (Journal of Literatrue-History-Geography- VSD) and 565 issues of the Tạp chí Nghiên cứu Lịch sử (Journal of Historical Studies- NCLS), this article clarifies their contributions in the process of constructing a new historiography in Vietnam, a historiography of the era of Ho Chi Minh. Based on the theoretical framework for building a new Vietnamese culture outlined in Vietnam’s Cultural Manifesto written by Truong Chinh (1943), the article discusses the role of VSD and NCLS in constructing and directing a new Vietnamese historiography. It emphasizes adherence to the principles of Marxist methodology, national identity, mass appeal, and international revolutionary cooperation.
