The Khuc family (905-923) achieved national autonomy in a much shorter time compared to other successive dynasties but contributed greatly to the opening of our country’s “age of independence”. During the last several decades, based on new historical materials and interpretations, the reassessment of the Khuc family’s contributions in particular and other dynasties such as Ho, Mac, and Nguyen, in general, is gradually introduced by the academia in a more objective way. In the course of that process, the Institute of History, as a Vietnam’s leading institute of historical studies, plays pioneering roles in conducting research, drafting historical works, and training and teaching the history of the Khuc family. Journal of Historical Review, as a part of the Institute of History, plays as an academic forum for those who study, teach history, and love history to publish their research that highlight the roles of the Khuc family in Vietnamese history.
