Abstract

During the resistance war against French colonialism (1945–1954), the Party Central Committee, headed by President Hồ Chí Minh, consistently paid close attention to the development of the three categories of armed forces, especially the main force troops, with the aim of destroying the enemy’s regular forces, liberating territory, creating strategic advantages for the resistance, and ultimately securing decisive victory. In implementing this policy, from 1945 to 1949, despite having to “fight under encirclement,” Vietnam initially achieved considerable success in building its main force troops. The growth of these troops in both quantity and quality provided the foundation for conducting regular military operations, while also creating momentum for the continued development and expansion of the main force army in subsequent years.
