A preliminary study on My Duc citadel

Abstract

In today’s Cao Thang commune, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province, there is an ancient citadel that exists in the field. There have been many scientific surveys, including research projects on the citadel, but our knowledge of this structure is still ambiguous. Our examinations show that the site is the My Duc citadel - a headquarter of a paramilitary administrative unit which was established by the Nguyen Dynasty in 1880 and abolished in 1888. After its abolition, My Duc citadel remained only as a small garrison and was gradually ruined with a few traces left on the ground.
