On the question of sites and timeframe of Buddhist propagation in Vietnam

Abstract

Based on the debates between two major opinions about the site and timeframe where Buddhism was first introduced to Vietnam, about the first monks who spread Buddhism and the first Buddhist temple in Vietnam, the author boldly suggests the need of organizing a national conference to understand the history of Ha Tinh’s Buddhism, particularly with regards to sites such as Quynh Vien pagoda, Nam Gioi mountain, Cua Sot, etc. This will allow new assessments on the role of Quynh Vien temple in Vietnamese Buddhist history and provide a scientific basis for restoring and promoting the great values of Quynh Vien pagoda and 28 historical and cultural sites in Dinh Ban commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province.
