Abstract

The Nguyen Dynasty was the last monarchy in Vietnam that continued to choose Confucianism as its dominating ideology to control society. To train and select a team of intellectuals to participate in the government apparatus, the Nguyen rulers paid great attention to building and developing the system of Confucian education and examination. This includes the selection of virtuous and talented officials to train students. To assess the performances of academic officials, the Dynasty established a system of testing teachers based on their seniority and the number of their students who passed local and regional exams,… The results of evaluating and classifying academic officials are significant for the court to implement reward and punishment for those academic officials.
