The political system of capitalism: Current status and some issues

Abstract

 The political system of capitalism was formed along with the successful process of bourgeois revolutions in Europe and North America in the early modern time. Over five centuries of development, the capitalist political system has made changes and adjustments in order to "ensure the common interests of the bourgeoisie in domestic and foreign policies and control its public affairs" (1); and at the same time performing the function of maintaining the existence and development of capitalism from pre-modern to modern times. From 2000 until now, in the context of rapid changes in the world situation, the political systems in some developed capitalist countries have undergone profound changes. This is a large research topic, and within the framework of this article, our aim is focused on analyzing: (i) The multi-party system and political polarization between parties from 2000 to the present; (ii) Current status of democracy in some developed capitalist countries; (iii) Some comments.
