Higher education cooperation between Vietnam and the United States (1995-2023)

Abstract

2023 marked the 28th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and theUnited States, and more remarkably, taking place an important event for both countries: the Vietnam-USrelationship was officially upgraded to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”. The path from “a formerenemy” to the highest level of cooperation between the two countries is not simply measured in years of linkagebut a result of continuous efforts from both sides. In the last 30 years of the Vietnam-US relations, highereducation cooperation has been one of the outstanding areas with many achievements, even, becoming one ofthe main pillars in the cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam-US higher education cooperationactivities are part of the umbrella of foreign policy and national development strategies. Accordingly, in directproportion to the increase in the diplomatic level of Vietnam - US relations, educational cooperation activitiesare also increasingly stronger, meeting the practical development requirements of the two countries. However,this is not just a one-way impact; in the other direction, educational cooperation is also a factor promoting theincreasingly close and extensive Vietnam - US partnership.
