History of Am Vai Pagoda through some new research findings

Abstract

Am Vai Pagoda is an ancient pagoda belonging to the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Buddhist sect. The pagoda was built on top of the sacred Am Vai mountain, in Bieng village, Nam Duong commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province. Over time, the pagoda was destroyed and its physical traces are almost gone. This is a difficulty when researching the history of the pagoda. However, based on recent research that investigated Nguyen dynastic documents, this paper aims to reconstruct a new understanding of the pagoda, including formation about its construction, clarification of its name, and its scale and structure.
