Ngo Dinh Diem with the rise and fall of the First Republic of Vietnam

Abstract

Six decades ago, a coup d'état took place in Saigon ending nearly 10 years of Ngo Dinh Diem's rule of South Vietnam. This event ended the existence of the regime known as the First Republic of Southern Vietnam. There have been many research projects that come up with several different conclusions about Ngo Dinh Diem's regime and its rise and fall. This paper provides my perspective on the regime’s origin and the reason for its collapse.
