Abstract

After the World War II, the United States had implemented the "Global Strategy" to prevent and eventually destroy communism on a world scale. In Vietnam, the US gradually intervened and helped the Ngo Dinh Diem government to carry out its "mission" to protect the free world, against the spread of the Communism was expanding to Southeast Asia. However, the Ap Bac victory (January 1963) of the Southern army and people created a new development on the battlefield and forced the US to make important adjustments in its Vietnam’s policy. They had to constantly "change horses midstream" in politics and adjust new military strategies in the Southern Vietnam. At the same time, the US also expanded the war to Northern Vietnam.
