Abstract

Richard Nixon is the 37th President of the United States of America, who brought the war of aggression in Vietnam to a new era. On the one hand, he implemented the Vietnamization of the war, gradually withdrew American troops back home, and participated in the war. Participating in the Paris conference on Vietnam. On the other, the Nixon Doctrine is being applied in the international arena. The year 1972 marked many major events in Nixon's political career: the Vietnamization of the war seemed favourable; major-country diplomacy turned Nixon to be the first US president to shake hands with leaders of the Soviet Union and Communist China. These events had a great influence on the Vietnamese people's resistance to war against the US. The 1972 offensive launched by troops and people in South Vietnam overturned all the results that the White House had envisioned under Richard Nixon. Nixon's administration failed both on the battlefield in South Vietnam and lost ground at the Paris peace talk. Finally, Watergate brought an end to the cunning statesmen and war-architect in Vietnam. Nixon became the first president of the United States and had to resign while in office. Richard Nixon's political career accumulated over several decades was brought to disrepute in 1972 when his prestige was ruined and his war efforts in Vietnam were about to prepare for a catastrophic failure.
