Abstract

The last decades of the twentieth century were when the world changed in the trend of political détente and sought to resolve conflicts and wars through negotiation. In that context, the United Nations has gradually built and affirmed its role as the world's leading international organization in conflict resolution and peacekeeping. During this period, Cambodia was considered one of the world's hot spots, with the involvement of different international organizations and great powers. This article, therefore, presents an overview of the United Nations' activities in Cambodia during the period 1989-1993 to highlight the changing role of this international organization. With experiences in Cambodia, the United Nations has increasingly made more practical and vital contributions to world peace.
