On some Confucian educational villages in the Red river delta

Abstract

Confucian education sillages are traditionally recognized as a part of Vietnamese tradition in the countryside where many people pursue their studies and achieve high scores in Confucian examinations. This created a tradition of studiousness and academic excellence through generations, forming distinct cultural and creative features. In a nutshell, a scholarly village is a village with many academicians. This article presents the "signs" to identify the Confucian educational villages, showing the difference between the Confucian educational village and other villages through these "signs" by analyzing those Confucian scholarly villages in the Red River Delta during imperial Vietnam.
