About the Journal
The Journal of Historical Studies traces its origins to the Journal of Historical-Geographical-Literary Research, established in June 1954 at the Tan Trao Resistance Base in Tuyen Quang province. Building on this legacy, the Journal of Historical Studies-the official publication of the historical community of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam- launched its inaugural issue in March 1959. The Journal is a scholarly publication of the Institute of History (IOH), Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). It operates under License No. 316/GP-BTTTT issued on 31 August 2023 by the Ministry of Information and Communications, and bears the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) 0866-7497.
The Journal of Historical Studies publishes 12 issues annually in Vietnamese and, beginning in 2027, an additional two issues annually in English. It operates under the following mandates: to publish scholarly research and findings in the field of historical sciences; to provide scientific evidence and analysis in support Party and the State policy making; and to disseminate historical knowledge, thereby assisting researchers, educators, and the broader readership in accessing up-to-date, and reliable information.
The Journal is recognized by the State Council for Professorship as a qualifying outlet for the evaluation and scoring of scholarly publicationsacross several disciplines and interdisciplinary fields, including: History - Archaeology - Ethnology/Anthropology; Philosophy - Sociology - Political Science; Culture and Arts - Physical Education and Sports; and Linguistics.
