Abstract

With the success of the August revolution, Vietnam became an independent nation. Vietnamese revolution, however, faced enormous challenges, including starvation, population illiteracy, and foreign invasion that threatened the survival of the revolutionary government. In addition, Vietnam was recognized and supported by none in the world. In the context of fighting in isolation, Vietnam had gained support from Thai government. This article covers three significant points. 1. Providing an explanation for the Thai supports through their geographical position, the role of Vietnamese overseas in Thailand, and Thai government’s political attitudes toward Vietnam. 2. Thailand’s support to Vietnamese revolutions, such as allowing Vietnamese representatives to stay in Bangkok, providing weapons and military supplies, and assisting the returns of Vietnamese overseas. Finally, the author would like to suggest some concluding remarks on the role of Bangkok as an international connecting point for Vietnam to open to the world. However, the warm relationship occurred for a short period before Thailand came close to the US.
