After Dai Nam became a French colony, the Nguyen court was losing their governing role, even in northern and central Vietnam after the 1884 Treaty. Prior to 1925, in the course of ruling Vietnam, the colonial government forced Nguyen dynasty to sign Monguillot treaty which led the Vietnamese court to a comprehensive crisis. Based on the examination of the treaty and other authentic materials, this paper presents the context, content and impact of the treaty that signed on November 6, 1925 between Hue court and the French government of Indochina. With that treaty, France took aways Hue’s last remnant of authority and turned them into a puppet, a mere political tool in hand of the colonizer for the purpose of ruling Vietnam until their collapse in the August revolution 1945.
