Daoist factors in Three-religious sites in 16th-18th century Nguyen Cochinchina

Abstract

During the 16^th and 18^th centuries, Viet migrants established in the Nguyen Cochinchina and maintained some traditions of their ritual and religious life, including ancestral worships, deities-worship, and three-religious worships. Among them, Daoism played essential roles as a foundational spirit for the Viet to consolidate on the new lands. The examination of materials involved Daoist factors shall be conducted via analysing symbolic meanings, worshiping statues, objects, parallel sentences, and architectural styles, etc., at three-religious sites in order to illustrate some characters of Daoist practices among Viet migrants in 16^th-18^th Cochinchina.
