Contributions of Nguyen graduates in Ha Tinh province

Abstract

Ha Tinh province possesses a long tradition of intellectual and learning. During the last 1000 years of the Dai Viet’s education tradition, Ha Tinh has 148 people passed the metropolitan examinations. Under the Nguyen rule, 53 graduates earned their doctoral degrees, 297 passed regional examinations, and hundred others passed local examinations. After earning their degrees, most of Ha Tinh’s graduates were entered officialdom and took part in governance. Many of them hold important positions in educational, cultural, political, military, economic, and diplomatic fields. Most notable among them were Grand Academician Truong Quoc Dung, Uy Vien General Nguyen Cong Tru, Board Minister Le Tuan, Nguyen Van Trinh, etc. The list also includes many patriots, writers and intellectuals that took part in the anti-French war, such as Phan Dinh Phung, Phan Trong Muu, Ngo Duc Ke, etc. The role of Ha Tinh’s graduates during the Nguyen dynasty was very prominent whose talents and capacity were dedicated to the construction and protection of the country.
