Historians of the feudal dynasties argued differently about the date that marked the end of the Northern domination. These opinions involved three major events: Khuc family regained autonomy in 905, the Bach Dang victory by Ngo Quyen in 938, and the unification of Dinh Bo Linh (967) with the establishment of the Dai Co Viet kingdom and the emperor title (968). Generally speaking, along with the modernization of Vietnamese historiography since the early 20th century, the view of the date that ends the Northern domination was also shifted. One tendency among those is clearly the recognition of the Khuc family’s roles which increasingly gains more interest and supports from Vietnamese and foreign scholars. This paper aims to analyse the views on the date that marks the end of the Northern domination reflected via historical works during the feudal period and modern historiography from the 20th century until now.
